In this report we review several contributions to the international economic literature about effects of immigration on the economic development in the receiving country. The main objective is to shed light on how immigration may affect the development in the Norwegian labor market. Our strategy is to describe main results from this literature and discuss them in relation to the economic context formed by the institutions of the Norwegian welfare state and the functioning of the labor market. The degree of immigration is the independent variable in the analyses we review. The main focus in the report is labor migration. With regard to the dependent variables, i.e., the phenomenon which immigration potentially has an effect on, the attention is on two main issues:- to what extent an increase in the immigration rate affects the average wage – and employment levels of the and how such effects distributes among different groups in labor force of the receiving country.- to what extent an increase in the immigration rate may lighten the tax burden carried by the native population.
