This report analyses the wage gap between researchers working in the public and private sector in Norway and other groups of highly educated employees in the private and public sector. The period we study is 1997-2003. The data available is representative for the Norwegian population of highly educated employees and contains information about individual wage levels and skill characteristics. The results show that publicly employed scientific personnel have a relatively low hourly wage compared to other groups of highly educated employees in the public sector, and a considerably lower wage than the comparable groups in the private sector.
