Education and Wage Inequality in Europe
Vantaa: Taloustieto Oy (2005)
ISBN print: 951-628-423-X
This volume sheds light on the important but complex issue of the interdependency between education and wage unequality. A review of the macro-oriented literature dealing with the role of education for income inequality and its evolution over time reveals that our current knowledge is still surprisingly scattered and contradictory, offering few robust guidelines for policymakers.Apart from this macroeconomic perspective, this volume presents comprehensive overviews of the recent empirical literature on education and wage inequality in 10 European countries: Finland, France, Greece, Germany, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Spain , Sweden and the UK. The country-specific chapters discuss the present education system from an equality point of view, outline overall trends in educational and wage unequality, attempt to disentangle the interplay between education and wage inequality in view of the existing empirical evidence, and point to key aspects of the current debate in each of the countries.image(arrow) Order this report from ETLA in Finland
