Skirbekk raises important questions about the viability of the Norwegian welfare state, and highlights important nation state-based prerequisites for its survival. However, much relevant research is omitted the book’s empirical foundation is weak, and Skirbekk’s references are imprecise. The book appears primarily as a bleak culture-pessimistic statement and represents a dystopian view of the future of the multicultural Norwegian welfare state
