Strategivalg i politiske partier
The research on strategic choices in political parties is reviewed, the emphasis being on the strategies employed by party elites in order to handle divisive issues. On the basis of “economic” and “sociological” models of electoral politics, a typology of party strategies is developed. Three strategies are presented: adaptation, persuasion, and agenda-setting. This is followed by a discussion of strategic choices in interlinked arenas, where strategies chosen in one arena also affect the others. Three arenas are presented: the internal, the electoral, and the parliamentary. Finally, some explanations of the choice of strategy, as well as the consequences of such choices are discussed.
