Theories of non-profit and voluntary associations frequently assume that ownership form – as ”voluntary”, ”state” or ”market” – is the basis of service qualities that produce comparative advantage. However, data from volunteer centres in Norway do not show any positive correlations between ownership form and the activity profile of the centres.
