Call for papers: Class and stratification analysis – Unsolved issues and new developments

Comparative Social Research, Vol. 30, 2012-2013

Class and stratification analysis has given us important insights into social mobility, economic inequality, labor market inequalities, ethnic stratification, gender inequality, family patterns, educational attainment, health inequality, and the stratification of cultural consumption, life styles, values and attitudes. Comparative analysis has also revealed cross-national differentiation in stratification processes, partly related to welfare state arrangements and national policies.
In addition to advancing our empirical knowledge, class and stratification researchers are continuously engaged in efforts to improve stratification analysis. This involves discussions on

  • theoretical definitions and conceptual clarifications
  • social mechanisms
  • modeling techniques and measurements

This volume of Comparative Social Research welcomes papers on class and stratification, in particular papers emphasizing unsolved issues and new developments with implications for comparative studies.

Volume editor is Gunn Elisabeth Birkelund, Department of Sociology and Human Geography, University of Oslo. Scholars are invited to submit summaries before 1 Septbember 2010, and manuscripts before 1 February 2011. All manuscripts will be reviewed by two anonymous referees.
