Fields of interest: Elites and power, trust, ownership, family businesses Trygve Gulbrandsen is senior researcher at Institute for Social Research and professor of sociology at Department of Sociology and Human Geography, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Oslo. He gained his Ph.d. in sociology at the University of Oslo. Before he was affiliated with Institute for Social Research in 1989, he worked several years in various ministries. He was director of research in Ministry of Cultural and Scientific Affairs, Department of Science Policy (1983-1985), director of research in Ministry of Labour and Local Government, Department of Working Environment and Safety Policy (1986-1988), and special advisor and senior advisor in Ministry of Finance, Department of Long Term Planning (1988-89). He has conducted research on the introduction of employee shareholding schemes and the emergence of partnerships in knowledge firms, and he has studied various aspects of governance and performance in family businesses. He organized a large survey study of economic, political and social elites in Norway, the Norwegian Leadership Study, which was carried out in the year 2000. Based on the data from this study Gulbrandsen has published several articles and co-authored two books on national elites. He has also published theoretical articles on power and trust. He has been editor of ”Tidsskrift for samfunnsforskning ”(”Journal of Social Science”), editor of the journal “Sosiologi i dag” (“Sociology today”) and member of the editorial board of the journal ”Søkelys på arbeidsmarkedet” (”Spotlight on the labour market”). He is currently member of the board of Research Committee 2 on Political elites, the International Political Science Association (IPSA). He is also member of a commission in the National Research Council in Norway on the infrastructure of the social sciences. |
